Educational programs

Postgraduate courses cover vocational training after the graduation of a higher educational institution. Postgraduate programs in Russia are hold only in Russian, therefore foreign citizens, who doesn’t know Russian, must have the certificate about the graduation of the preparatory course.

There are the following forms of postgraduate courses:
1.Magistratura (magistracy)
2.Aspirantura (graduate school)
3.Ordinatura (residency)

The master is a high academic degree, an initial scientific degree or qualification received by the student after the graduation of magistracy. In modern Russia normative term of the program of master’s preparation (at the internal form of training) - 2 years. However preliminary the student should master the program of bachelor (4 years) or specialist (5-5,5 years). Degree is appropriated by results of protection master dissertation at session of the State certifying commission.

Aspirantura is a specialized division of the postgraduate education or research establishment. Its programs are directed on the preparation of the teaching and scientific staff of high qualification - candidates of sciences. The period of training is 3 years in Russia. During the training the post-graduate student not only masters new knowledge, receives new professional skills and writes own research work, but also should pass practice as a teacher (not less than 50-100 academic hours).

On the graduating of training it is necessary to pass final examinations (candidate minimum). At successful delivery postgraduate student has the right to protection of the candidate's thesis.

Clinical ordinatura is an educational establishment aimed to improve professional skill of doctors in medical high schools, institutes and research establishments. Duration of training in the clinical residency is 2 years, 3 years in a surgical direction. Residents master subtleties of the chosen direction under supervision of doctors-experts. The residency gives the students rights to get a qualification of the doctor in the certain direction (for example, a gynecologist, a otolaryngologist, etc.) and to carry on a clinical practice.
