Veterinary medicine Training program on “Veterinary” specialty with awarded qualification Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) takes 5 years. The academic year consists of two terms 18 weeks each. The first term starts on 1st September and finishes on 31st December; the second term starts at the beginning of February and finishes at the end of June. Students have winter vacation (2 weeks approximately from 22nd January to 4th February) and summer vacation lasting 4-5 weeks (July-August). The curriculum of the faculty of veterinary medicine provides more then 7500 hours with included 3200 hours for obtaining a practical skills. During the training period students master more than 50 subjects, have 50 tests and 40 exams. For final attestation students have State examinations on basic subjects and practical skills. Practice work is considered to be an important component of highly qualified specialists training program. Students do practical work at agricultural enterprises, veterinary clinics, veterinary laboratories, veterinary and sanitary inspection laboratories at markets, factories processing cattle-breeding products. At the faculty of veterinary medicine developing of practical skills is considered of great importance for training highly qualified specialists. Students have practical work at training-and-experimental agricultural enterprises, veterinary clinics, laboratories, pharmacies, veterinary and sanitary inspection laboratories, meat and milk processing plants. The students do practical work under supervision of highly skilled specialists (lecturers, head veterinary doctors, heads of veterinary offices, etc). During the practical course students obtain practical skills nailing down theoretical knowledge. Degree offered after graduation is Doctor of Veterinary medicine. A graduate awarded “Veterinary Medicine (DVM)” diploma is ready to work at cattle breading enterprises of different forms of ownership, industrial complexes processing milk and meat, growing pedigree animals, treatment-and-prophylaxis and diagnostics centers (animals treatment stations, district veterinary clinics, laboratories, frontier veterinary offices) at veterinary authorities of constituent entity, district, city, etc.
